BIOGRAPHY
Dmytro Shavala
B. 1994, Shklo, Ukraine
Biography: Dmytro Shavala is a contemporary Ukrainian artist known for his dynamic wooden sculptures that merge geometry, color, and form. Currently based in Lviv, Shavala honed his skills in woodwork at the Joseph Stanko Art School and the Lviv National Academy of Arts, later expanding his practice through an intensive workshop at the renowned Fonderia Artistica Versiliese in Pietrasanta, Italy. Drawn early in his career to abstract sculpture, Shavala developed a deep intellectual and sensory relationship with form. His work explores the aesthetic value and cultural identity of Ukrainian wooden sculpture, reinterpreting its traditions through a modern, conceptual lens. Combining natural wood tones with vibrant, glossy colors and precise geometric structures, his sculptures often evoke the optical vibrancy of Op Art while balancing the spatial depth of painting and sculpture. Central to his practice is the repetition of forms organized around visual focal points, reflecting ongoing themes of development, transformation, and internal personal evolution. Shavala also experiments with bronze casting, pushing the boundaries of material and form. His works have been exhibited internationally, including at Artrooms London (2019), and have been acquired by private collectors in the United States, China, the United Kingdom, Italy, Australia, Germany, France, Saudi Arabia, Poland, and Spain. He is the recipient of the Fonderia Artistica Versiliese Award (2019).
